Wellington man denies murdering baby

A 33 year-old man went on trial in the High Court in Wellington today for murdering his partner's baby.

Blair Murray Anthony Williams, of Upper Hutt, denied murder but admitted failing to provide the necessaries of life to seven-month-old Kathleen Harris.

Kathleen died on the way to the Otaki Medical Centre in November 2004.

Her mother Tracee Leigh Ann Harris was sentenced to seven years' jail after Kathleen's manslaughter.

Williams' trial before a jury of nine women and three men is set down for two weeks.
