Welfare review extended

The Government has extended the reporting deadline for the Welfare Working Group to February.

The group is reviewing the welfare system and will recommend ways of reducing long-term welfare dependency and improving economic and social results for beneficiaries.

"The large and growing number of people currently on long-term benefit support should be of concern to all New Zealanders," chairwoman Paula Rebstock said.

"The working group wants to take the time to engage more New Zealanders in its work."
