A trio of Pirinoa School pupils have created winning designs to crown the Lake Ferry weather station.
Department of Conservation ranger Sandra Burles said Year 5 to 8 students at the school were given a fortnight to come up with designs for the weather station.
The designs had to includefour partially hidden inanga (whitebait) and one of three themes including wind, rain or sun.
The winning designs were drawn by Himi Davis (Year 8), Grace Cobeney (Year 7) and Lily Preist (Year 6).
Ms Burles, who was a contest judge alongside Heather Atkinson, of the South Wairarapa Biodiversity Group, said the designs submitted by students were of a very high standard and judging the three winners was tough.
Pirinoa artist Adair Davis, using paint supplied by Greater Wellington Regional Council, is to complete the decoration of the weather station, which Lake Ferry residents have readied for painting.
The Lake Ferry weather station site was opened in 1953 and gathers wind speed and lake level information for the Greater Wellington Regional Council.
