Weather: Snow forecast for South Island

Another late snowfall is set to descend overnight on South Island alpine passes.

MetService warns Fiordland's Milford Rd could feel the brunt of a bitter front from this afternoon, with Canterbury's Arthur's Pass next in line.

As much as 4cm of snow is likely to settle on their upper roads through to tomorrow morning.

Porters Pass and Lindis Pass should get a dusting of 1-2cm.

Snow is expected to briefly affect the Crown Range Rd near the summit this evening.
