Two people were injured following a water incident in the South Island town of Papatowai.
Hato Hone St John said one ambulance, one first response unit, an operations manager and two helicopters were sent to the incident at 3.15pm.
Two patients, one in a serious condition and one in amoderate condition, were transported to the hospital by helicopter.
Acting Senior Sergeant Nathan White said emergency services received reports about 3.15pm of four people struggling in the water near the Tahakopa River outlet.
