A person allegedly trying to rob a South Auckland McDonald's was thwarted by angry customers.

Video from the post shows a group of at least four men carrying another man out of the fast-food restaurant's Māngere store.

Outside the restaurant, one of the group throws a punch at the man.

Twitter user ae?, who posted the video, said "someone tried to rob Māngere McDonald's and got f*** up by the customers".

Auckland police believe the incident was originally caught on camera in April and has recently resurfaced online again.

A spokesman said the male who was believed to be intoxicated proceeded to enter the store through the drive-in window.

"Members of the public assisted staff in getting the male outside the store and a scuffle broke out as they attempted to get him to the ground," he said.

"Police arrived a short time later and spoke to those involved.

"The male has been trespassed from the store as a result and there is no further action at this time."
