An elderly women is improving in hospital, after she suffered a stroke and collapsed onto a wasps' nest.
A spokeswoman for Wairarapa Hospital said Mary Everitt, 85, was in a "fairly satisfactory" condition, and was slowly improving.
Mrs Everitt was gardening in her Masterton home when she had
a massive stroke which caused her to fall onto a wasps' nest.
Neighbours and ambulance officers were powerless to help as Mrs Everitt was stung by hundreds of wasps for more than half an hour.
It wasn't until the arrival of a fire crew wearing protective gear that the wasps were forced off the woman's body with a hose.
