The Ruamahanga Ramblers held their weekly run on Sunday morning, a new innovation aimed at giving runners and walkers from the Masterton area the chance to join them without clashing with their own events.
Seven new faces turned up, a pleasing number considering the elements. Whereas the weather inMasterton and Carterton was sunny and breezy, the rain was coming down horizontally at race venue, the Fensham Reserve. Luckily the hay barn at the start-finish had its back to the wind and rain and the timekeepers were able to stay dry and relatively warm.
Ben Van Gervan, better known for his prowess as a walker, challenged himself to run the full length race and returned a respectable time while Kim Drysdale had her first walk of the season and was caught out by the Ramblers' policy of starting on time. However, despite giving the other walkers a 3min head start she was still first over the finish line.
