Wairoa baby who died overnight named

The name of the four-month-old Wairoa boy who died in Starship Hospital overnight on Friday has been released by police.

He was Raynar-Lee Soljar Thompson-Hatley.

Provisional post-mortem results indicate that Raynar-Lee died from head injuries but the full results are not expected for several weeks.

Investigation head Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Greig yesterday said the possibility of charges would depend on the results.

"I don't want to even go there at this stage."

Police today said they were focused on establishing the events that led to the baby's initial hospitalisation at Wairoa on April 13.

The boy was rushed to Wairoa Hospital by ambulance from an address in Lucknow St. He was later transferred to Hawke's Bay Hospital and the next day to Starship.

Mr Greig said on Saturday officers were "very happy" with the co-operation of the infant's family.
