Destination Wairarapa is promoting Wairarapa as a "winter getaway", with a prize package of travel, accommodation and a helicopter flight to tempt people over the hill.
Destination Wairarapa general manager David Hancock says the winter campaign, which begins this week, has been created to inspire out-of-towners to enjoy a winterbreak in the region.
They have partnered with Fly Palmy (consumer brand of Palmerston North Airport Limited) to encourage people flying in and out of the city to consider visiting the Wairarapa.
A key element of the campaign is a competition for two people to win a Winter Escape in the Wairarapa.
The prize includes return Air New Zealand flights to Palmerston North airport, a car rental for the duration of their stay, accommodation at the Copthorne Hotel & Resort Solway Park in Masterton and a scenic flight over the Wairarapa valley with Amalgamated Helicopters New Zealand.
A second prize is also on offer for those who live in driving distance from the Wairarapa.
That includes accommodation and a scenic helicopter flight.
"As locals we know Wairarapa is a great winter destination and we've developed a range of videos on our website and inspirational travel ideas to attract more people to come here this winter," said Mr Hancock.
"These are aimed at families, couples and groups wanting girls or boys weekend get-aways.
"They can come here, rug up in front of an open fire and enjoy a glass of Martinborough pinot noir or sample some of the best whiskies from around the world at The Bar at Solway Park which is affiliated to the Scotch Malt Whisky Society.
"Families can visit Manukura, the white kiwi at Pukaha Mount Bruce while those wanting an adventure can go hunting, fishing or take a scenic flight in a helicopter before enjoying a beer from one of the four breweries in the region," he said.
Air New Zealand Regional Affairs Manager Ian Collier said the national carrier is pleased to support Destination Wairarapa's winter campaign.
