Wairarapa show record shattered

RECORD CROWDS: The A&P Show at Clareville over the weekend topped gate taking records.

Clareville Showgrounds manager Ray Beale said this year's Wairarapa A&P Show set a new record for gate taking.

The three-day event fluked a flawless weekend in what has been one of Wairarapa's more tumultuous springtimes.

"We've exceeded the record for the third year," said Mr Beale.

He said the sheep races, a new event, were extremely popular, as was a lady with performing dogs.

A "huge number" of trade exhibitors was a big attraction.

"We got great comments from trade exhibitors, people from Tauranga, Hamilton, they think we're one of the better shows in New Zealand. The atmosphere is right, the crowds are here.

"People come for an entertaining day - it's such a lovely family day out."

He said they keep the costs down for families, which makes it affordable.
