With a week to go in September, Wairarapa looked on track yesterday for at least an average September rainfall, with the east coast wetter than average, according to figures from Greater Wellington.
At 8.15am yesterday, Angle Knob in the Tararuas was 543.5mm, when the average for the entire month is589mm.
The rain gauge at Tauherenikau racecourse had collected 76.2mm, with the average full-month rainfall being 88mm.
At Waiorongomai, the figure so far was 119mm, close to the average September total of 130mm.
Out east, the Tinui Valley gauge was collecting 181mm, well past the average total September rainfall of 116mm.
River levels were much higher than average thanks to rain this week, especially the Kopuaranga River near Mauriceville that was 15 times fuller than normal, running at 22.86 cubic metres a second.
The Ruamahanga River at Waihenga, Martinborough, was running more than five times heavier than normal at 383.45 cubic metres a second.
