Wairarapa will be keen to assume the role of giant-killers at the annual Central Districts women's cricket tournament to be played at Palmerston North over Labour weekend. They will probably start underdogs in their limited-overs matches with Manawatu and Hawke's Bay but with White Fern Kate Pulford in charge they arequite capable of causing a couple of upsets. Pulford, who plays her club cricket in Christchurch and her provincial cricket for Central Districts, is in fine batting form. Just last weekend she made 147 in a club game. She is also a very useful medium pace bowler. The versatile Elizabeth Perry will be another key member of the Wairarapa team despite having just completed her hockey commitments last weekend. She was in the Wellington team which finished runners-up in the national league. Perry, who attends Chanel College, made the Central Districts senior women's cricket team last season and will be keen to consolidate her position in that side by performing well with bat and ball. Perry is by no means the only talented youngster in the Wairarapa-line up. In fact, they are full of them with all but three of the 12 players being college students. Like Perry , Wendy Hull is very much in the all-rounder category and big things can also be anticipated from the likes of Morgan Terry, Courtney Liggins and wicketkeeper-batsman April Wilton.
