Waipu SH1 crash: Five people rushed to Whangārei Hospital

Five people have been taken to hospital after a serious crash on State Highway 1 in Waipu, Northland, this evening.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said there will be delays in the area because the road is blocked after Mountfield Rd.

Hato Hone St John told the Herald they treated five people and transported them to Whangārei Hospital after receiving a call at 7.15pm.

One person was in a serious condition, two were in a moderate condition and two were in a minor condition.

St John said two ambulances and an operations manager are in attendance.

Police confirmed there will be delays while the scene is cleared.
