Waioweka Gorge open 24/7 over Easter under stop/go, with hour-long delays

The Waioweka Gorge will be open under stop/go over Easter, NZ Transport Agency says.

There will be no overnight closures at the Goldsmith slip site on State Highway 2 for five nights from 6am today through to 8pm on April 7.

Night closures will resume for three days from April 7 between 8pm and 6am, and open daily under stop/go between 6am and 8pm.

From 6am on April 10, the gorge will remain open under stop/go, with closures only when necessary.

Motorists should expect delays of up to one hour when stop/go traffic management is in place.

The NZ Transport Agency advised drivers to drive with care as it was still a challenging area with loose material on the hillside.

“Be prepared, the road may need to close at short notice if conditions change.

“Electronic message boards are in place at several points on the way into the gorge.”
