Waima man killed in Northland crash

A man killed in a Northland car crash last night was Alexander Wharerau, 29, of Waima, near Kaikohe.

Police, fire and ambulance staff were called to the crash scene on State Highway 12 shortly after 11pm.

A Kaikohe police spokesman said Mr Wharerau's vehicle had slid off the road, through a fence and into a tree.

He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
