Waikato man killed while lying in road

A pedestrian killed when he was run over on Flat Road near Kihikihi southeast of Te Awamutu last night was today named as 41-year-old local man, Paki Papa Mahu.

Te Awamutu police said the incident occurred at about 9.30pm and believe Mr Mahu was lying on the road in the north-bound lane when he was killed.

Investigators are still trying to establish the exact circumstances around the incident and are keen to hear from anyone who was travelling on Flat Road a few kilometres southeast of Te Awamutu between 8pm and 10pm.

Police have spoken to the driver of the vehicle involved.
