Wairarapa College bounced back to winning form at the Rankin Cup national secondary schoolboys hockey tournament at Albany yesterday.
A 2-1 loss to Rangitoto College on Monday was a disappointing loss for the well-performed Wairarapa College side but they overpowered Wanganui Collegiate in their second pool game, winning by 5-1.
The news
was not so good at the Federation Cup national secondary schoolgirls tournament in Auckland, with Wairarapa College beating Napier Girls 3-0 but then slumping to a 6-0 defeat by Tauranga Girls. St Matthew's Collegiate played only the one game yesterday, beaten 1-0 by Christchurch Girls.
Taking the limelight at the Founders Cup boys hockey tournament at Clareville were Tararua College who scored 14 goals in winning their two matches.
Wairarapa College showed improved form at the Lower North Island netball tourney in Palmerston North.
They lost both their A grade matches on Monday but had two wins yesterday, beating Gisborne Girls 27-23 and Central Hawke's Bay 30-15.It was a different story for St Matthew's though, they went from two first round wins to two second round losses.
Kuranui College made it three from three in the B grade when they beat Karamu High 36-25 but then suffered their first defeat, going down to Opunake High 29-14.
Yesterday's soccer results were pleasing with Rathkeale College having a win and a draw at the Trident Trophy boys tourney at Wanganui and Wairarapa College maintaining their unbeaten record with a scoreless draw at the Central Satellite Trophy girls tourney.
