Being active is often promoted as one of the cornerstones of good health, but it can be dangerous too. There's the old school games that leave you with more than the buzz of nostalgia - 2309 were hurt playing tag last year, including three over-85s, and 86 were felled by the humble frisbee. Forty people were hurt taking part in a "super-hero" activity.
The warmer weather can be dangerous - 79 people were hurt by deckchairs, 236 were injured in Jandal-related incidents and 28 people blamed ice cream.
ACC spokeswoman Stephanie Melville said the deckchair injuries included the chairs collapsing and people falling out of or over them. Ice cream-related injuries included people slipping on the sugary delight, spraining their wrist scooping it, or dropping tubs on their toes.
The organisation has finished its annual safety week, which focused on staying safe while playing sport, taking part in recreational activities and drinking alcohol.
"It's probably true that some Kiwis are accident prone enough to trip over the cord of a phone - and there are many wacky ways we injure ourselves - but if you're the one that's injured it's anything but funny."
