A Woolworths NZ spokesperson said: “Auckland stores were impacted by a supply issue of Vogel’s bread on Sunday, March 8.”
Woolworths NZ said it expected the issues to be resolved by tomorrow, thanking customers for their “support and patience.”
The details of the production issue that has led to the shortage have not been disclosed.
Vogel’s manufacturer, Goodman Fielder, and Foodstuffs North Island have been approached for comment.
Vogel’s will celebrate its 60th birthday next year.
Founder Johan Klisser, who died in 2022 aged 95, was a Jewish refugee who escaped the Netherlands following World War II.
He produced the dense-textured bread in his Auckland bakery in 1967 and it has since become a Kiwi staple.
The standard 750g loaves sell for $5.19 on the Woolworths online store, with the gluten-free offerings selling for $8.39.
