Highly ranked Pakistan visitor Naseem Khan made his presence felt in more ways than one when the Masterton Squash Club staged their popular winter open championships at their Villa St headquarters last weekend.
Khan beat James Smith of Tawa 9-11, 11-9, 11-4, 11-2 to win the premier men's title andprovided several coaching tips for locals keen to learn from a player of his calibre.
Khan is now preparing for the Henderson PSA International Open, to be played in Auckland from August 23-26.
The special plate section in the premier men's event was won by Matt Spooner from the Red Star club, Malcolm Wyeth from Masterton won the plate, and Luke Jones of Palmerston North the consolation plate.
The women's open title went to Marg Patete of Masterton from Karina Southey of Red Star, with the plate section being won by Sarah-Marie Davies of Masterton.
