A Māori Television journalist was left with a mid-take scratch after a violent encounter with a bird in Auckland’s CBD.

Reporting in front of Commercial Bay, Jessica Tyson was in the middle of a windy cross for Te Ao with Moana when an errant seagull smacked into her face.

The wild moment was captured on camera and shared on the reporter’s Instagram yesterday with the caption “POV: Just trying to do your job but nature has other plans”.

Clutching her face and complaining about pain around her eye, a producer can be heard telling the broadcaster she is bleeding.

The video shows a snap of the aftermath, with the 32-year-old pictured with a bloody wound under her eyebrow.

Several other notable Kiwis shared their disbelief at the clip in the comments.

The Hits Breakfast co-host Ben Boyce wrote “😮“, while sports journalist Alice Soper said: ”Ahhhhh! Wild to have happened and to have been caught on camera!”

Stan Walker, the Black Box singer and Tyson’s brother-in-law, also commented on the post, writing: “Ooooooooh heeellllllllll noooooo”.

But Tyson seemed to take the incident in good stride, cheekily suggesting the “bird needed a flying lesson or something” as she replied to comments.
