A Dargaville woman who seriously injured the passenger of a car she hit while drink-driving has been spared a prison term, partly because the victim did not want her jailed.
In Dargaville District Court, Deborah Kathleen Eveleigh, 39, was sentenced to five months' home detention.
The injured woman suffered aperforated bowel and extensive injuries to her hip, chest and stomach and permanent damage to her hand.
Judge John McDonald said: "The victim doesn't want you to go to jail, she just wants you to get help."
