Viaduct death: new manslaughter charge

A man has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of Sky Television employee Billy Dawson.

Mr Dawson died in Auckland Hospital hours after an alleged altercation outside Spy Bar at Auckland's Viaduct Harbour on October 7.

Police allege he was punched before he fell over and hit his head.

Three men, Kit John Murray, Mona Christo Feterika and Antoni Te Moko Roger, were charged with assaulting Mr Dawson.

Murray's charge was upgraded to manslaughter when he appeared before Auckland District Court this morning.

He was remanded in custody.

Feterika and Rogers also appeared and were remanded on bail.

Lawyers for all three defendants opposed an application to publish images of the accused.
The application was due to be heard before a judge this afternoon but was adjourned until next month because no Crown representative was present.
