Several vehicles have been damaged, and one passenger injured on an Interislander ferry crossing that left Wellington this morning bound for Picton.
KiwiRail said the 8.45am Kaitaki sailing out of Wellington experienced a “significant roll while passing near the Karori lighthouse area”.
“As a result, some passenger vehicles shifted andsustained damage. One passenger suffered a minor injury, and our crew provided immediate medical assistance.

“Interislander is supporting affected customers, and a full assessment is being conducted following the vessel’s arrival in Picton.”
Interislander posted a service alert on its website, notifying passengers today’s 6.15am Picton-to-Wellington crossinghad been cancelled because of the rough sea, as had the 11am return service.
