Vegetable prices up nearly 20pc

It seems the recent spike in the cost of healthy food isn't anything out of the ordinary.

Latest figures from Statistics New Zealand show vegetables have skyrocketed by nearly 20 per cent

Peter Silcock from Horticulture New Zealand says it's a natural seasonal influence.

He says prices usually go up in September because it's the middle of winter.

Mr Silcock says supply from overseas growers is also a factor.
