Up to five weeks of delays on hill road

Road works on Rimutaka Hill Rd are expected to take four to five weeks to complete.

NZTA has been installing 23km of rumble strips along the winding route and three new sections of barrier fencing, each more than 1km long.

NZTA spokesman Mark Owen said there was quite a bit of work to be done, including repairs to the road.

Several slips have occurred along the edge of the road on the Wairarapa side.

"There's quite a bit of clean-up required."

Motorists can expect sections of the Rimutaka Hill Rd on the Wairarapa side to be reduced to one lane and traffic-light controlled.
