It was a close encounter of the Beckham kind. On Friday evening, before David Beckham's LA Galaxy side left for the Wellington Phoenix- Adelaide game, I was fortunate enough to corner the soccer superstar when he was waiting for his team in the lobby.
While his hugebodyguard was distracted, I asked Beckham for his photograph. Holding him tightly, I was able to feel his muscled body, and realised what all the fuss was about. Yes, he's just as handsome in person, and taller than I expected.
His voice is also quieter than I imagined. I chatted away to him and even sneaked in an autograph from him. He told me he had a chest infection and I told him to keep warm. Then, with a smile, he went leaving me an autograph - and that photo.
