Cross Country Rentals Giants maintained their unbeaten record for the 2012 season in the Hutt Valley President's grade men's softball competition with a win over Wainuiomata League in a top 4 match at South Park, Masterton, on Saturday but it was a close go.
Giants scraped home by 2-1 with
coach Allan Clarke conceding it was a game which could have gone either way.
"We were never comfortable, it was close all the way through," he said. "It was real pressure stuff, there was nothing in it."
Giants did start well by going out to a 1-0 lead in the first innings and then moved out to a 2-0 advantage soon after. However, Wainuiomata League hit back with a run in the fifth innings and despite both teams having some big hitters in their line-ups that was to be the end of the scoring action.
Clarke said the lack of runs was due to the excellent pitching by both sides being backed up by some equally impressive fielding.
