UCOL Market Day to showcase firms

About 100 new UCOL Wairarapa students will share a barbecue meal and browse a range of business stalls at an orientation market day at the UCOL campus in Masterton tomorrow.

Event spokeswoman Leanne Eichler said new students will be encouraged to peruse the business stalls that will be onsite Wednesday and to share in a barbeque lunch, with a choice of salads, at the upper level Student Hub at the Masterton campus.

Some of the businesses and agencies represented at the Market Day include Wairarapa Community Law Centre, Avon Cosmetics, Wairarapa Oral Health Services and Wairarapa Volunteer Centre.

There will also be music, competitions, giveaways, games and prizes on offer, she said, over the two hour orientation event that starts at 1pm.

"The market day is a time for students to get to know local businesses and find out how they can support students throughout the year."

An array of orientation events for the coming fortnight were launched yesterday that will involve UCOL campuses at Palmerston North, Wanganui, Masterton and Auckland, including market days, sporting days, and clubs days -- where students have the chance to network with club representatives in their region.

Classes on offer at the Masterton campus include certificate and diploma courses in cookery, baking, business, automotive engineering, vocational skills, beauty, early childhood, barista, human biology, computer, carpentry, joinery, food safety, and Maori studies; and Bachelor studies in teaching, social work and nursing.
