Two suspicious Tokoroa house fires overnight

Two house fires in Tokoroa in the early hours of this morning are being treated as suspicious.

Both houses were unoccupied when the Fire Service arrived, Northern Communications Spokeswoman Megan Ruru said.

Crews were called to the first blaze about 12.50am on Lomond Ave.

A second fire was reported about 4.45am on Pilrig Place - just one street parallel to the initial blaze.

Ms Ruru said both fires were being treated as suspicious because the houses were empty.

A fire investigator had already been at the scene, she said.
