Two seriously injured in Thames head-on smash

Two people have been seriously injured after a head-on smash involving a car and a ute near Thames.

The vehicles crashed on State Highway 25 near Kopu about 5.40pm.

Police said a female has serious to critical injuries, and a male has lesser but also significant injuries.

Police and other emergency services attending.

Road diversions are in place at the intersections of SH25 and Bush Rd and at SH25 and Hauraki Rd.

The roads will be closed for some time as medical staff and the police serious crash unit attend.
