Two people struck by a vehicle in central Auckland this morning are believed to have been using a pedestrian crossing.
One of the injured is understood to be a young girl.
A passerby told the Herald he had just dropped his daughter at school nearby and came across the sceneon Sandringham Rd, outside the Kingsland train station.
He said he saw a person lying on the middle of the road - a pedestrian crossing - with several people crowded round them. At that stage, an ambulance and fire crew were already on the scene.
He continued walking into the station when he heard a loud scream, like someone was in pain.
A person on Twitter said the scene outside the Kingsland station "looked nasty" and he heard screaming from the train station.
A St John spokeswoman said an ambulance arrived at the scene at 8.12am. Three other units were also currently responding but were yet to arrive. She was unsure on how many patients or their injury status.
Sandringham Rd is now closed between Walters Rd and Onslow Rd in Kingsland with traffic being diverted towards Dominion Rd. Motorists are asked to avoid the area.
