It's been an ill-fated weekend for cyclists in the South Island, with four motorcycle deaths in three accidents.
Nelson man Caleb Neho, 25, also known as Caleb Wikaira, died of his injuries overnight on Saturday after a crash involving a motorcycle and a car in Nelson.
Police and ambulance were notified of the crash, which happened on St Vincent St between Beccles Lane and Northesk St, at 5.45pm on Saturday, police said.
Another motorcycle rider died after crashing near Timaru yesterday morning.
Police confirmed officers were called to the scene about 7.50am. The motorcyclist died after crashing through a fence about 6km north of Timaru on Rosewill Valley Rd.
Meanwhile, State Highway 1 was closed for hours today after a fatal crash between a vehicle and a bicycle south of Manakau township about 3.30pm.
Police have since confirmed the cyclist died at the scene.
The crash closed SH1 and diversions were put in place but have since been removed.
