Two injured in crash on Auckland's Southwestern Motorway

Two people were seriously injured after the car they were travelling in crashed into a barrier and rolled onto its roof on Auckland's Southwestern Motorway this morning.

The crash happened near George Bolt Memorial Drive shortly before 11.

A section of the motorway was closed but has now reopened.

An ambulance spokeswoman understood the two seriously injured patients were trapped in the car.

Fire Service spokeswoman Megan Ruru believed a truck was also involved in the crash.

She said two crews were working to free the trapped pair.

A truck also broke down on the Newmarket Viaduct, blocking the left southbound lane but has now been cleared.
