Two injured after car ploughs into parked car

Two people were injured when a car ploughed into a parked car in south Auckland last night.

The crash took place on Ferndown Rd, Papatoetoe, around 7.30pm, police said.

A car crashed into another parked car, Inspector Kerry Watson said. St John Ambulance said two people were treated at the scene.

One person in a critical condition, and one person in a moderate condition, were taken to Middlemore Hospital.

Speaking from the scene last night, Inspector Tony Wakelin said a black Honda "driving at speed", lost control and smashed into a parked car.

"Luckily there was no one in it," he said.

"But there were three persons in the black car, and they've been taken to hospital. One with very serous injuries, so he's been classed as status one, which is life threatening."

The serious crash unit would investigate the cause of the crash, he said, but "at this point in time everything's pointing to speed involved in one of the vehicles".

He warned drivers to take care on the roads.

"You've just got to drive safe and to the speed limits, drive to the conditions," he said.

"It's not worth putting your life at risk. Your family are the ones that suffer, and your friends and relatives, when you get a loss of life.

"In this case, sadly, we've got someone who's now fighting for his life, all because of dangerous driving."
