A man filmed by a Christchurch homeowner allegedly leaving her property has appeared in court today charged with burglary.
Brendon James Smith, 44, and a 36-year-old woman have been charged over the alleged burglary at a Worthy St house in the suburb of Avonhead on Friday.
Smith, of Aranui, appeared from custody at Christchurch District Court this morning.
He made no application for bail and was remanded in custody without plea to June 26.
Police said Smith was allegedly filmed by the victim "in the act of committing the offence".
The footage helped police, they say, in making arrests yesterday.
"Police have spoken with the victim who was pleased to hear of the arrests and grateful that the offenders will be held to account," a police statement said.
A 36-year-old Woolston woman, alleged to have driven the man from the scene, was today given a registrar's remand and interim name suppression. She has been charged with burglary and on April 26, of stealing groceries valued at $181.45 from Raeward Fresh supermarket on Marshland Rd, Christchurch.
She was remanded on bail without plea to July 5.
