Two people were taken to hospital on Monday after a crash involving a tractor and a truck at an intersection between Napier and Hastings.
The crash was reported at 8.46am at the intersection of Pakowhai and Gilbertson roads, just north of the Chesterhope Bridge.
The Hawke's Bay District Health Boardreported mid-afternoon two men, one aged in his 50s and the other, in his 70s, had been admitted to Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital and were each in a stable condition.
Fire and Emergency NZ shift manager Murray Dunbar said one person had to be extracted from one vehicle.
Police serious crash unit investigators were called to the scene and, with the bridge and crash site closed to traffic with detours available through Farndon and Brookfields roads.
Police reported later the scene was cleared by 11.30am.
The crash happened in wet weather which was continuing to make driving conditions treacherous on several roads.
National highways agency Waka Kotahi NZTA reported a slip was blocking the southbound lane of State Highway 2 near the Devil's Elbow, between Napier and Wairoa, and speed restrictions were in place early on Monday afternoon.
