Two fatal crashes in North Island overnight

Two people have died in road crashes in the North Island this morning.

In the first crash, one person died when a vehicle crashed into a power pole on Puketona Rd, Haruru, in the Bay of Islands, about 1.20am.

Senior Sergeant Matt Rogers, of the police northern communications centre, said one man died in the crash.

Meanwhile, a 47-year-old man died in a crash at Mt Bruce, near Masterton.

Inspector Marty Parker of the central communications centre said the man died when a house truck or caravan left the road.

A 10-year-old boy escaped injury in the same crash.
