Two die in separate crashes within minutes

Two men are dead after a pair of fatal crashes in the space of an hour in Taranaki this morning.

A 57-year-old man died when he crashed his vehicle into a parked car at the intersection of Courtenay and Cameron St in New Plymouth around 7:15am, police said.

The man, who was the only person in his car, died at the scene.

Police said another man died after his car collided with a concrete truck on State Highway 3 near Waitara at about 7:50am.

A woman who was driving the truck escaped with minor injuries.

The crash dislodged the mixer bowl from the concrete truck, spilling its contents onto the road, police said.
