Two dead after car crashes into power pole

Two people are dead after their car crashed into a power pole in Dunedin's Kaikorai Valley early this morning.

Senior Sergeant Steve Larking said the car hit a centre island concrete power pole about 3.40am.

Police were still investigating, but believed speed was a factor in the crash, he said. No other vehicle was involved.

Mr Larking said the victims were still to be identified.

The Kaikorai Valley Rd has been closed at the intersections of Townley Rd and Barr St.
