Two dead after car crashes into Pakuranga building

Two people are dead after a crash in Pakuranga early this morning.

A car has veered off Pakuranga Rd and has crashed into a building near Udys Rd and Johns Lane.

The vehicle was severely damaged and has split into at least four pieces. Police believe speed was a contributing factor in the crash.

Police say a male and female were found dead at the scene.

There are no longer any diversions in place.

Senior Sergeant Jono Chappell said investigations have found that the crash took place about 4.30am.

"Early indications suggest that speed appears to be a factor in this crash, however this will form part of the investigation by our Serious Crash Unit."

Police want to hear from anyone who saw a dark-coloured Honda Accord near Pakuranga Road around 4.30am.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Counties Manukau Serious Crash Unit on 09 261 1300.

The deaths have been referred to the Coroner.

The building the car collided into contains a number of businesses, including a dentist's practice.

Two people were killed in the crash after a car hit a building.

Police were called to the incident about 7.20am.

A damaged street light and skid marks on the grass at the scene.

Traffic was diverted on Pakuranga Rd at the intersections of Lewis Rd, Glenmore Rd and Gossamer Drive this morning.
