Two charged over South Auckland shooting after police come across man with gunshot wound

A man and a woman are facing charges over a shooting in Papakura at the weekend where police came across a man with a gunshot wound.

Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Taylor said a 23-year-old man and 47-year-old woman have been charged jointly with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and unlawful possession of a restricted weapon.

On Saturday afternoon, police were patrolling around Clevedon Rd when they heard what they believed to be gunshots.

A short time later, they came across a man with a gunshot injury, said Taylor.

The victim was taken to hospital in a moderate condition and has since been discharged.

A large police operation followed at a Grove Rd address involving the Armed Offenders Squad.

Cordons were in place on the street.

Taylor said initial indications are that the victim and the offenders are known to each other, and there is no risk to the wider community.

A male has been remanded in custody and will reappear in Papakura District Court on March 26. A female will reappear on March 16.

Police have asked anyone with information that may assist the investigation to contact them via 105, quoting file number 260228/8498.
