Two men have been arrested and charged with serious assault after a German tourist was knocked unconscious and his wallet was stolen in Queenstown on Saturday morning.
The two North Island men, aged 21 and 24, allegedly kicked and punched the tourist, who was on a 10-day holiday, in the head and face, knocking him unconscious on Shotover St about 3am, the Otago Daily Times reported.
Detective Grant Miller said the victim was taken to Lakes District Hospital for treatment for facial and neck injuries. He had since been discharged.
The man was expected to fly home today, a day earlier than originally planned.
The two accused would appear in Queenstown District Court today.
