Tuesday Bay of Plenty crash victim named

Police have named the driver killed when he lost control of his vehicle in eastern Bay of Plenty on Tuesday.

He was Jock Tioke te Pere, 45, of Te Teko. His tangi was being held at the Mapou Marae.

Mr te Pere died after losing control of his car on State Highway 2 west of Edgecumbe, about 20km west of Whakatane.

He hit a bank on the opposite side of the road and died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.

The fatal accident brought the road toll in the eastern Bay of Plenty this year to 11.
