Footage of a mass brawl in Waikato has spread online, prompting a response from councillors to progress a safety initiative.
In the video posted on social media, a large group of people can be seen throwing punches at one another while people watch on George St in Tuakau.
Police then arrive at the scene, with one officer pulling out what appears to be a Taser and pointing it at the group.
A police spokesperson said that about 12.50pm on Tuesday, February 10, officers attended an incident on George St where a group of people were fighting.
“Upon arrival police have separated the parties and the group of approximately eight have dispersed,” the spokesperson said.
“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances around the altercation.”
A mass brawl in Tuakau has prompted a response from councillors to progress a safety initiative.
In a joint statement to the Herald, Waikato District councillors Endine Dixon-Harris, Fabio Rodrigues and Vern Reeve said it would not be appropriate for them to comment on the circumstances of the fight, but incidents like this can unsettle those in the town.
“Tuakau has a strong sense of community,” they said, “with residents and local businesses who care deeply about their town.
