In what has been described as one of the worst cases of its kind, a Waikato truck diver has been sentenced for driving 27 hours non-stop.
Albert Pahina has been disqualified from driving for two months and ordered to do 120 hours of community work.
He previously pleaded guilty to
seven charges, including exceeding the 13-hour work limit, failing to rest and false log-book entries.
Commercial vehicle investigation unit Senior Sergeant Lex Soepnel says the case sits at the top end of similar cases.
He says it's not overly common but it happens throughout the country.
