Save State Highway One just north of Wellington has been closed for much of the night after a truck fire.
The truck and trailer unit caught fire around midnight just prior to the Churton Park offramp and was well alight when the Fire Service arrived.
Fire Service shift manager Dave Meikle
said the driver escaped unharmed.
The southbound motorway remains closed between Tawa and Churton Park while the scene is cleared.
