Truck driver injured avoiding another crash

A driver has been airlifted to Dunedin Hospital after his fertiliser truck tipped on its side this morning, completely blocking State Highway 1 north of Balclutha.

It is understood the truck was trying to avoid another crash when it tipped over at 9.40am, blocking both lanes.

The male truck driver is believed to have a broken left arm, and possible back injuries.

The driver of one of the other vehicles has been taken to Clutha Health First by ambulance with minor injuries.

Four vehicles in all were involved in the crash.

Otago Regional Council staff are working with fire-fighters to clear the fertiliser and spilt fuel from the road.

A detour is in place via Lakeside Road through Kaitangata but is not suitable for H vehicles, with delays expected.
