Truck driver crushed at Hamilton warehouse

A man who died in a workplace accident near Hamilton suffered crush injuries.

He got stuck between a swing lift and a shipping container at Torpedo 7's distribution warehouse near Hamilton International Airport.

Emergency services were called to the industrial warehouse at Sharpe Rd in Rukuhia about 6.30pm yesterday.

WorkSafe confirmed its inspectors were investigating.

Torpedo 7 spokeswoman Julia Morton confirmed the man was a contractor from a "local transport company".

"We're deeply saddened to confirm that a contractor from a local transport company passed away after a fatal accident at our Torpedo7 distribution centre in Hamilton yesterday evening.

"Our distribution centre is closed today while investigations are under way."

A person at Hamilton trucking distribution company, Altranz, whose vehicle remains parked at the warehouse today, declined to comment when contacted by the Herald.

Torpedo 7 is an outdoor goods and sports store owned by The Warehouse Group.
